WM 6573 at Riverside Yard, Baltimore105 views1992. Still beautiful after all those years. 3798 was part of the last order of diesels delivered in WM colors. She survived in WM paint until her retirement by CSX in the mid-90's. I took this photo at Riverside engine terminal in Baltimore, about 300 yards from her old home rails in what was once Port Covington.

Hood Statue - Pedestal54 viewsJohn Mifflin Hood was president of the Western Maryland Railroad during the time of it's greatest growth. He shepherded the investments of the City of Baltimore to expand the railroad into Pennsylvania, and ultimately sold the railroad to the Gould Interests which led to the consolidation of the west end and construction of lines toward Pittsburgh. He is honored with a statue in St Paul Place in the Queen City of the Patapsco Drainage Basin.

Turntable lighting63 viewsI decided to use track power to run the lights on the bridge. I used the brass rod to run under the walk boards to the solder blob that connects the factory power connection. These run to the outer edge of the walkboards where they are soldered to the rods that run the length of the bridge. You can also see the mounting of the two side lights on the overhead structure.

Turntable Lighting71 viewsThe brass rod becomes the goose neck. I soldered a short lead from the bulb directly to the brass rod, then ran the other wire down to a hole in the deck next to the post.

Temporary section84 viewsThis new temporary section provides more operational opportunities for the layout while it waits in a holding pattern for my son's new bedroom to be renovated. The only thing "permanent" is the river bed, the new bridge, and the embankment on the left side. The rest will be ripped out when construction on the finished product proceeds, hopefully summer 2007.

GP-9 Chopper DCC Installation38 viewsDZ-123 chip from Digitrax in a Lifelike GP 20 Frame. The nose is milled down to just above the worm gear to allow for the chopnose and the headlamp. The chip's light function got zapped, so I hardwired a 15v grain of wheat bulb to the frame using the mounting screws. The back of the frame is milled down also to allow room for the chip and the rear light, which is an old board from an Atlas RS-3.
About 3/32" is milled off the top of the frame to provide clearance for the wires.
